Artificial lawns are becoming ever popular in Australia as there is low upkeep with virtually perpetual good looks. How do you choose the right lawn? Let’s look to find out!
Deciding on the colour of the grass:
Very different to the old glaring Astroturf the new artificial grass comes in about a million different shades of colours so you can choose the variety that is specifically correct for your type of garden and use. There are even types available that have artificially dry colours to make the lawn look as realistic as possible.

Deciding on the right variety of artificial lawn:
A different consideration to take into account is that there are different types of artificial lawn. Blade length varies, long to short and so does the width and thickness. This all copies the natural varieties of grass very closely so choose one that mimic’s the lawn in your area so your choice fits in. It will also look more like the real thing. Don’t choose warm weather grass for a colder climate and vice versa.
The feel of the lawn:
There are again various varieties of lawn available in terms of the feel underfoot, from soft to hard. A harder variety would be good if your family don’t play on the lawn much and if you do use the lawn a lot a softer variety that doesn’t heat up in the sun would be appropriate. So hard or soft your choice.
How to choose a long lasting variety:
One of the biggest choices of artificial lawn is one that will keep up appearances for longer. So choose one with at least a 8 year warranty. Check with the supplier for advice on installation and make sure the supplier is reputable as installation will greatly affect softness when walking on the lawn.
